Banking
Georgian banks still open accounts for foreigners, but less easily than the sales pages suggest. Know-your-customer checks have tightened, remote opening works only by power of attorney, and the bank can decline without giving a reason. Here is what actually happens.
Personal account: multi-currency (GEL, USD, EUR, GBP), international debit card, online banking. Opened at Bank of Georgia, TBC or a smaller bank, by power of attorney.
IE business account: a separate account under your registered business name, next to your personal account. Only priced at €275 when opened alongside an IE setup.
Corporate account: for an LLC or Virtual Zone company, after full KYC. Banks expect an office lease and at least one employee paid by the company.
With the personal account you choose a monthly package from the bank. Both come with premium Mastercard and Visa cards, multi-currency balances and online banking that works from anywhere. The monthly fee is paid to the bank, not to us or our partner.

Package terms as offered by the bank through our partner in 2025 and 2026. The bank sets these fees and can change them; our partner confirms the current terms before opening. Physical cards are sent to you by DHL, FedEx or a similar courier; digital cards work straight away.
Passport, proof of address, a description of your business and its clients, the source of your funds, and for companies the registration documents and office lease. A Georgian phone number helps. Banks are stricter with some nationalities and with certain activities, such as crypto and payments. Card delivery abroad depends on the bank; some banks only hand cards over in Georgia.
Our partner opens accounts by power of attorney, so you do not need to travel. The big banks reserve the right to ask for a personal appearance or a video call, and a decline is possible after the paperwork. If that happens, the service fee covers a second application at another bank where appropriate; it does not buy a guaranteed account.
Once the notarised power of attorney is in Tbilisi, the account is usually open within two working days. Since 1 April 2026 Georgia's deposit insurance covers 50,000 GEL per depositor per bank. Transfers to and from the EU run through SWIFT, not SEPA; on the Club package an international transfer costs €15 flat. For an IE, keep business and private money separate from day one; mixed accounts are the most common cause of trouble with the monthly return.
